ESUN’s New Product PETG with High Toughness and Impact Strength

ESUN's latest product PETG will debut in Nov, 2014. It boasts unbelievably high toughness and impact strength, which the market has been waiting for a long time.

Compared to the conventional polyacrylic acid esters, its impact strength is 3-10 times stronger than the old one. Also it can be printed as a variety of goods, thanks to  its wonderful flexibility. Compared to PVC, it is more transparent, has better gloss, and even more, it is easier

to print and environment-friendly.

PETG is the abbreviation of Poly (ethylene terephthalateco-1, 4-cylclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate). It is a kind of transparent, amorphous type co-polyester.

PETG's full name is polyethylene terephthalate -1, 4 - cyclohexane 2 methyl ester.  It is made of terephthalic acid (PTA), ethylene glycol (EG) and 1, 4 -cyclohexane two methanol (CHDM). These three kinds of monomers ester are joined through the method of poly-condensation,

Compared with PET, which contains 1, 4 -cyclohexane two methanol co-polymerization monomer, and with PCT which contains glycol monomer, PETG is very different.

Because of its outstanding thermal formality, tenacity and weatherability, PETG is far different from the conventional PC board and the modified acrylic board. PETG can be printed directly without drying preparation. It can be formed quickly with low printing temperature.  All these lead to a very high rate of printing success. It can also maintain the finished product's toughness and prevent it from turning into a yellowish color. PETG also contains UV absorber and can serve as a protective layer from the influence of ultraviolet light.

According to ESUN's R&D members, PETG is an excellent material which combines the advantages of both PLA and ABS. Its material shrinkage rate is very low during printing.

It also has very good hydrophobicity which means you don't need to keep the material in an enclosed space.  Its low shrinkage rate allows it to be printed

without a heated bed.  It is almost odorless during printing.

Advantages of PETG:

Odorless; Little shrinkage rate; hydrophobicity (Will not absorb water and as such clog the extruders); Outstanding toughness and high impact strength; Good liquidity (flows smoothly); High mechanical strength and excellent flexibility; High transparency; Good gloss; Recyclable.
